We hope that you had a wonderful and healthy Holiday Season and New Year.
As a follow up to our December Ocean Freight letter, we wanted to provide additional information on the skyrocketing freight costs from Asia and communicate how Gerson is approaching the situation.
We (and other importers) are receiving astronomical price increases on freight coming from Asia (up to 80% cost increases). To offset a portion of the increased costs, on orders we receive beginning January 8, 2021 on At-Once available inventory for Seasonal product (GIL Spring), Gerson will increase prices 5% above catalog minimum prices on available inventory for New Orders. Gerson will be not discounting pricing below the new minimum level pricing. (This price increase does not apply to the current GIL Fall and Holiday program closing February 19th).
On existing open orders currently in our system, both seasonal, everyday décor and gift, we will not be applying a cost increase. Even though our freight costs have jumped dramatically on this inventory. This includes the GIL Spring and Summer program we are currently shipping. The Gerson Company is absorbing the increase in freight cost for all existing orders across all brands and product types.
As the industry price leader, we never want to raise prices and we will always be 100% transparent with our customers. We believe the minimal price increase to cover a portion of the cost increases is the most equitable solution for our customers.
